Jennifer & Brian {06.23.09}

Jennifer and Brian wanted a small wedding. But, they didn’t want one in just any venue. So, they had their little wedding at a big, gracious, renowned Inn – The Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels, MD. Jennifer had asked me to be sure and photograph her with her 2 sisters, as they had a tradition of getting whichever one of them was the bride in her wedding gown while the other two were in casual clothes. With the Miles River kindly serving as background, we got that shot! While their famiies looked on, video cameras rolling and catching every second, they repeated their vows and concluded with a symbolic joining of their families by mixing colored sand in a specially made picture frame containing a picture of themselves. After dancing on the patio, the group was invited in to a luscious spread in the Miles Room at the Inn.

Ashley & Johnny {06.20.09}

Ashley and Johnny’s lovely wedding at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club reflected their style to a “T”: casual and fun with beautiful details and the love of family and friends. Ashley made everything – the place cards, candle holders, and table cards, all had touched her hand. The place cards were photos she had shot at Terrapin Nature Park after carefully drawing “1” “2” “3”, and so on, in the sand. Each picture was then displayed on wooden easels at their respective tables. Shells were everywhere, even woven into the colorful bouquets by Shirley Windsor of Seasonal Flowers. With the scenic Bay Bridge in the background, vows were taken and the celebration began. Shells once again graced another important detail, the wedding cake, created by Julie Haines of Julie Bakes. I was touched by the heartfelt toasts from their friends and family which brought tears to their eyes as well. At sunset, Johnny and Ashley walked hand in hand along the snug little beach in front of the beach club and listened to the gulls overhead and watched the colors change from pink to orange, to blue.

Sarah & Brent {6.13.09}

Sarah and Brent got married Scientifically – well, not really, but they got married in a unique place in Southern Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay called “Scientist’s Cliffs”. This community was founded in 1935 by Flippo and Annie Gravitt. That year, while hosting a picnic with colleagues, who were mostly scientists, they realized a desire to create a beautiful retreat on the 238 acres along the bay and development began soon after. Today the community is private and available only to homeowners, and their guests and renters. Housing appears to be mostly log cabins tucked into the natural landscape on the rolling hills and cliffs above the Chesapeake. Sarah’s parents are lucky enough to have one of most appealing and lovely log homes, and it was next to this that Sarah and Brent had their ceremony. We couldn’t believe the tall poplar trees and lush landscape as well as the unbelievable view of the Bay from this one-of-a-kind perch! Rain came down on the guests and wedding party but Josh, Brent’s best man, dutifully held an umbrella above the couple and all went along without a pause. After the ceremony, Sarah and Brent were treated to a lovely rainbow and even a bald eagle flyover! We took the wedding party for some fun shots on the beach and then it was on to Chestnut Lodge for their celebration. Food was abundant and everyone loved dancing well into the night. Brent’s mom, Kathy, served a variety of her homemade cookies which were quickly stuffed into bags for late night snacks. I loved watching Brent look at Sarah all though the festivities. Such a happy groom!
